Northumbria University Sports Facility - [General News]
Veale-Nixon have been appointed as electrical contractors for the new £26m sports facility being constructed at the City West Campus on the site of the old Northumberland Road Building Annexe and due for completion in June 2010.
The facility is to be constructed over 3 levels to provide outstanding state of the art fitness and training facilities open to students, staff and members of the public.
There is a 25metre 6 lane swimming pool with 'floating floor' to allow for changes in depth and timing devices for monitoring performance and also on the ground floor a 3 court sports hall with flexible seating for 2,600 people.
Included within the development are a 40metre 4 lane sprint track with cameras to film performance, performance analysis suites, a 150 machine gym and fitness suite as well as 3 squash courts with removeable walls.
To the outside of the building is to be a glass encased climbing wall to enable passers by to see the climbers in action.
