Work carried out on buildings of historical significance.
Gateshead Heritage Centre
The electrical installation work undertaken at the 900 year old Grade 1 listed former St. Mary's Church is part of a £1.2m plan to transform the building into a new visitor attraction.
The project is being undertaken as part of the £200m invested in the new cultural quarter which encompasses The Baltic, Sage Gateshead and the Gateshead Milennium Bridge as part of the re-generation of the Gateshead Quayside.
The visitor centre is devoted to Gateshead's past and its position high above the River Tyne offers some of the finest views of Tyneside.
The interior of the church has been stripped back to its medieval form. Work was carried out in consultation with English Heritage to ensure that the installation was carried out sympathetically commensurate with the historic status of the building.
There is a new glazed entrance, visitor facilities, a reception area and education suite. The major part of the building is a huge exhibition space containing a series of interactive displays chronicling Gateshead's history but also available for visiting exhibitions.
